Ribas Negre
Ribas Negre showcases what Mallorca has to offer in terms of wine: the native Mantonegro grape variety in its most direct, fruit-forward expression – approachable, Mediterranean, without detours.
Bodegas Ribas in Consell are among the oldest wineries on the island, with roots dating back to 1711. Today, the winery is run by the 12th generation and consistently focuses on reviving Mallorcan grape varieties – above all Mantonegro, which thrives here on barren limestone soils under a Mediterranean climate.
In the glass, this is a vibrant red wine with aromas of ripe blackberry, pomegranate, and a hint of wild herbs – thyme, perhaps a touch of bay leaf. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, the acidity fresh enough to give the wine vibrancy. Not a heavy, heavy wine, but rather a red with Mediterranean lightness and a pleasantly short, clean finish.
Best served between 14 and 16 °C . Pairs well with grilled lamb loin with rosemary, Mallorcan tumbet, lamb tapas, or a cheese platter featuring Mahón. An uncomplicated everyday companion that still reflects its origin.
