Bodegas Beronia Beronia Vinas Viejas

Bodegas Beronia Beronia Vinas Viejas
Old vines, concentrated fruit, characterful finish — the Viñas Viejas from Bodegas Beronia shows what Rioja can achieve with plenty of time in the vineyard.
Beronia is one of the reliable addresses in the Rioja Alta. The winery has been working since the 1970s and is known for structured, age-worthy red wines based on Tempranillo. The grapes for the Viñas Viejas come from old vines — old vines provide lower yields but denser aromatics and more depth in the wine.
In the glass, deep cherry red with violet reflections. On the nose, ripe black cherry and blackberry, plus licorice, a hint of cocoa, and subtle roasted aromas from barrel aging. On the palate, full-bodied and meaty, with juicy texture and a long, slightly spicy finish with notes of roasted almonds and a fresh mint tone in the finish.
Serving recommendation: Served well at 16–18 °C. Pairs with lamb shank with rosemary crust, mature Manchego, or Ibérico ham. Also a good choice as a companion to a hearty beef stew.
