Betz Family Winery Clos de Betz
Clos de Betz is the Bordeaux-inspired flagship wine of the Betz Family Winery – a red wine that combines the power of the Columbia Valley with classic structure.
Bob Betz MW founded the winery in 1997 in Washington State after spending decades as winemaker at Chateau Ste. Michelle. The Columbia Valley provides the raw materials: intense sunlight, cool nights, and volcanic soils that impart depth and vibrancy to the wines. Clos de Betz is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc—vinified according to Burgundian tradition and aged in French oak barrels.
In the glass, it displays dark cherry, plum, and black raspberry, underpinned by a medley of red spices and a subtle hint of smoke. The mouthfeel is medium-bodied with a silky texture; the firm, well-integrated tannins provide structure without harshness. The finish is long, with lingering dark fruit and a slightly spicy note.
