Betz Family Winery Bésoleil
Betz Family Winery's Bésoleil is the Rhône soul of Washington — a Grenache-dominated blend that combines elegance and depth without flaunting power.
Bob Betz founded the winery after 28 years as cellar master at Château Ste. Michelle—with a Master of Fine Arts degree and the clear goal of establishing Rhône grape varieties in Washington's Columbia Valley. Bésoleil (Provençal for "in the sun") reflects this origin: Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre from hand-selected vineyards in the Columbia Valley, where significant temperature variations between day and night contribute to the wine's aromatic complexity and acidity.
In the glass, it displays aromas of strawberry compote, fresh cherry, and raspberry, complemented by white pepper, sandalwood, and dried herbs—typical of a well-aged Grenache with Syrah spice. The body is medium-bodied, the tannins fine and well-integrated, and the finish long with a hint of minerality and fresh herbs.
Recommendation: Serve at 16–18 °C. Pairs well with leg of lamb with rosemary, braised duck, or a mature goat cheese. Best enjoyed by 2027.
