The Barbaresco from Gaja comes as a half-bottle (0.375 l) and shows what Nebbiolo from Piedmont can do: plenty of structure, yet clear, bright fruit and elegance instead of power.

Gaja is one of Italy's most famous wineries and has been shaping Barbaresco for generations. The DOCG guarantees origin and grape variety: The wine comes from Piedmont and consists of Nebbiolo, which Gaja vinifies dry here.

In the glass, strawberry, red cherry, and blackberry appear, along with a hint of orange peel and floral notes. On the palate, it feels supple and round, the tannins are finely integrated, and the freshness keeps the fruit tense. The finish is long and carried by depth.

Recommendation: Serve it at 16 to 18 °C, ideally decanted shortly before. It pairs well with tajarin with butter and sage, braised veal cheeks, risotto with mushrooms, or mature hard cheese. The half-bottle is well-suited for an evening for two.
