Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc from the Franschhoek Valley – this is South Africa's answer to its great counterparts from the Loire and Bordeaux. This wine from the Anthonij Rupert winery demonstrates how independently the Cape region can handle one of the most underrated Bordeaux grape varieties.

The winery bears the name of Johann Rupert's brother, who passed away in 2001, and is located in the Cape Winelands region near Franschhoek. The family consistently invests in steep slopes with well-drained soils and focuses on controlled yields – giving the Cabernet Franc the space it needs.

After 18 to 24 months of aging in new French oak barrels, the wine presents a dense aromatic profile: blackcurrant, blackberry, and graphite on the first sip, followed by dried oregano, cinnamon, and a hint of cocoa. On the palate, firmly structured yet well-integrated tannins with lively acidity and a long, slightly spicy finish.

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C . Drinking window until 2030+. Pairs well with braised lamb with herb crust, duck breast with red wine reduction or a mature Manchego cheese.
