Anthonij Rupert Cabernet Franc

Cabernet Franc from the Franschhoek Valley – this is South Africa's answer to the great role models from the Loire and Bordeaux. This wine from the Anthonij Rupert winery shows how independently the Cape region can handle one of the most underestimated Bordeaux grape varieties.

The winery bears the name of Johann Rupert's brother, who died in 2001, and is located in the Cape Winelands region near Franschhoek. The family consistently invests in steep slopes with well-drained soils and focuses on controlled yields – the Cabernet Franc gets the space it needs here.

After 18 to 24 months of aging in new French oak barrels, the wine presents itself with a dense aromatic profile: blackcurrant, blackberry, and graphite at first, followed by dried oregano, cinnamon, and a hint of cocoa. On the palate, firmly structured but well-integrated tannins with a lively acidity line and a long, slightly spicy finish.

Drinking temperature: 16–18 °C. Pairs with braised lamb with herb crust, duck breast with red wine reduction, or an aged Manchego.

Anthonij Rupert

Discover the fascinating world of Anthonij Rupert, a renowned wine farm in the picturesque Franschhoek valley, surrounded by the majestic Groot Drakenstein Mountains in South Africa. The Rupert family acquired this historic estate in the 17th century and continued the wine tradition with passion. In 2005, the entire property passed to Johan Rupert, who named the estate after his late brother Anthonij Rupert. Today, Anthonij Rupert is considered one of the most innovative wineries after an extensive renovation.
