Anthonij Rupert Main Blend

A red wine from the heart of the Franschhoek region that shows what South Africa can do in the Bordeaux style: dark fruity, spicy, with the backbone for long aging.

Anthonij Rupert Wyne is one of the most ambitious estates in the Western Cape region. The winery bears the name of the entrepreneur Anthonij Rupert, who passed away in 2006, and is still run by his family. Its philosophy: European winemaking tradition on South African terroir. The vineyards around Franschhoek lie on ancient granite weathering soils—cool enough for slow ripening, warm enough for full fruit development.

On the nose, the Main Blend displays ripe blackberry, plum, and blackcurrant, underpinned by cedar and dark chocolate—the result of 24 months of aging in new French oak . On the palate, a dense tannin structure remains velvety despite its power. The finish is long, slightly spicy, with a hint of roasted coffee bean. A further 24 months of bottle aging before shipping makes it ready to drink without diminishing its potential.

Best served at 17–18 °C with beef fillet, braised leg of lamb, or mature hard cheeses like Manchego. Those who cellar it for a few more years will be rewarded with increasing complexity — drinking window until 2032+ .

Today, following extensive renovations, Anthonij Rupert is among the most innovative wineries.
