Old Hazelnut
The Old Hazelnut from the Birkenhof Distillery in the Eifel region embodies the essence of traditional German distilling: a distillate made from fresh hazelnuts that develops an exceptional depth after several years of barrel aging. In the glass, it reveals a soft, nutty bouquet with hints of roasted aromas, mild sweetness, and a long, dry finish. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C — best enjoyed neat in a nosing glass to allow the aroma to fully unfold.
As a digestif after a good meal, with dark chocolate or a mature mountain cheese, the Old Hazelnut liqueur is particularly good. Those who appreciate nut whiskies or Amaretto will find a more characterful, less sweet alternative here.
Eight generations, one passion: In the heart of the Westerwald, the family behind the Birkenhof has been distilling their spirits since 1848 – with stubbornness, craftsmanship and genuine enthusiasm.
What's created here is far more than just schnapps. Fine brandies that taste of fruit and time. Spirits that mature in cognac casks and possess a natural sweetness. And the Master Edition – for all those who want to know what true distilling craftsmanship can achieve.
No wonder the Birkenhof attracts 20,000 visitors annually.
