Alpha & Omega Frühburgunder VDP. Gutswein 0.75L

Alpha & Omega Frühburgunder VDP. Gutswein 0.75L
Frühburgunder from the Ahr is a rarity — the grape variety is more sensitive than Spätburgunder, ripens earlier, and in good hands produces wines of fine, almost transparent elegance. The Alpha & Omega from the Deutzerhof winery shows exactly that: a red wine with clear structure and velvety character that brings the uniqueness of this almost forgotten variety to the fore.
The Deutzerhof winery is located in Mayschoss, one of the most famous wine villages in the Ahr. The vines for this estate wine grow, among other places, in the Mayschosser Mönchberg — a site with the slate and greywacke subsoil typical of the Ahr, which gives the wines minerality and depth. The Ahr is Germany's northernmost red wine region, and the steep slate terraces store the heat that Frühburgunder needs for complete ripening.
In the glass, it shows aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and a hint of violet, plus a subtle earthy note reminiscent of damp slate. The tannins are soft and well-integrated, the acidity lively without sharpness — typical for this variety, which prioritizes elegance over power. The finish is pleasantly long and fruity.
Best served at 14–16 °C. Pairs well with salmon trout, mushroom risotto, or a mild goat cheese — also an uncomplicated companion to pasta with tomato-herb sauce.
