An idea from two brothers — and a product that changed the wine world
The origin of Vacu Vin lies in a specific moment of disappointment: in 1984, two Dutch brothers — a wine merchant and an engineer — realized at a birthday party that their opened wine had lost its taste overnight. Two years later, this frustration led to an invention: the original Vacu Vin Wine Saver, which came onto the market in 1986 and brought the vacuum principle for wine preservation into everyday life. Founder Bernd Schneider registered the company in Delfgauw, Netherlands — where the company headquarters has remained to this day.
What began as a one-product business grew into an internationally positioned brand. In 2001, Bernd Schneider handed over the leadership to his two sons, Patrick and Stephan. The company operated under the name International Innovation Company for a time, but returned to the original brand name Vacu Vin, which has long been considered a generic term in many households. Since 2017, Vacu Vin has been part of the Dutch Creative Brands Group. Today, the products are available in more than 80 countries.
Dutch engineering thinking meets social responsibility
Vacu Vin develops and produces its products primarily in the Netherlands, according to ISO standards and with more than 20 patents registered worldwide — a clear sign that originality is not a marketing promise, but a legally anchored stance. Product development follows a clear principle: maximum functionality with simple, durable design.
The company's history also includes a social dimension that goes back to the founder. Bernd Schneider initiated the production project Voor Elkaar, in which people with difficult access to the labor market are involved in the manufacture and assembly of Vacu Vin products. Quality assurance and social responsibility do not run counter to each other here, but are consciously thought of together. In 2024, the brand set another milestone with the Wine Saver Loop: The device consists of 98% post-consumer recycled plastic and was awarded the Red Dot Award for product design.
From the Wine Saver to a complete bar toolbox
The vacuum pump stopper is the heart of the range — and remains so. The principle is simple: the rubber stopper is placed on the opened bottle, the pump extracts the air, an audible click confirms the vacuum. An independent study by the laboratory Meron B.V. proved that the Wine Saver keeps wine fresh for up to 10 days. The vacuum pump and matching stoppers — such as the models available from us — are the starter set that rightly stands in millions of households.
Around this core, Vacu Vin has built a wide range: rapid coolers for wine and champagne bottles, pourers, corkscrews, champagne stoppers, bar tools, and gift sets.
