The name comes from the mountain: Helderberg means "bright mountain" in Afrikaans – and that is exactly where this traditional winery is located, at the foot of this luminous peak. The first grapes were harvested here as early as 1906.
Today, the Helderberg Winery belongs to the renowned Boekenhoutskloof family. The vineyards benefit from the proximity to the sea and the fertile soils. Full-bodied, elegant red wines are created here, above all a first-class Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of blackcurrants and cedar wood.
White wine lovers will get their money's worth with the Sauvignon Blanc: grapefruit, green figs, and a hint of freshly cut grass. A true piece of South African wine history that you must have tasted.

At the foot of the Helderberg – "bright mountain" in Afrikaans – grapes have been harvested since 1906. The winery now belongs to the Boekenhoutskloof family and is one of the oldest continuously operated estates in the Stellenbosch region. The proximity to the Atlantic ensures cool nights that preserve the aromatics and acidity in the grapes, while the fertile granite and sandstone soils give the wines structure.
The Cabernet Sauvignon is the heart of the range: dense aromas of blackcurrant and cedar wood, a firm tannin structure that promises aging potential. Ideal with braised rack of lamb or aged hard cheese. The Sauvignon Blanc shows the cooler side of the Helderberg – grapefruit, green fig, and a hint of freshly cut grass, to be drunk young and direct, best with seafood or a light goat cheese.
