Behind Falesco stands one of Italy's most successful wine families: the brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella. Founded in 1979, the winery has revived forgotten local grape varieties like Roscetto and combined them with international giants such as Merlot.
The breakthrough came in 1993 with the single-varietal Merlot Montiano – today an icon of Italian innovation. Wines are produced on approximately 370 hectares between Lazio and Umbria, skillfully combining tradition and modernity.

Cotarella winery between Latium and Umbria
Falesco was founded in 1979 by brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella – two names that stand for precision and a spirit of innovation in the Italian wine world. The winery is located in the border area between Latium and Umbria, where volcanic soils and a continental climate form the foundation for expressive wines.
The turning point came in 1993 with the Montiano: a single-varietal Merlot that showed what Latium could achieve beyond the classic denominations. Since then, it has been one of the most highly regarded red wines in Central Italy. In addition, the Cotarellas have brought forgotten local varieties like Roscetto back into the winery and combined them with international grape varieties to create independent cuvées.
On around 370 hectares, wines are created today such as the accessible Vitiano, the spicy Tellus Syrah, and the Est! Est!! Est!!! di Montefiascone – a classic of the region, reinterpreted. Falesco stands for a style that takes origin seriously without falling into nostalgia.
