Château Filhot – this is over three centuries of Sauternes in its purest form. Since 1709, a luscious wine has been growing here, in the south of the famous appellation, that makes you forget time.

The winery still belongs to the family of its founder, Romain de Filhot – today, Gabriel de Vaucelles manages the estate with 60 hectares of vines. Deuxième Cru Classé since 1855: an award that Filhot carries with philosophy, without resting on its laurels. What you find in your glass is golden depth – honey, ripe fruit, and that unmistakable freshness that makes a good Sauternes so unforgettable.

Château Filhot —
three centuries of sweet Sauternes

Château Filhot is located in the southern part of the Sauternes appellation, away from the hustle and bustle around Yquem, and has been producing luscious wines since 1709 that have remained in family hands to this day. Gabriel de Vaucelles manages the estate with 60 hectares of vines in the direct line of the founder, Romain de Filhot.

The Deuxième Cru Classé of 1855 is not a resting place for Filhot, but a benchmark. The soils of sand, gravel, and clay favor a uniform Botrytis development, which gives the wine its characteristic balance: honey and ripe citrus fruit in the foreground, followed by a freshness that keeps the finish lively. Not a heavy dessert wine, but a Sauternes with philosophy.

In the glass, Filhot shows a golden yellow color, with aromas of apricot, beeswax, and a hint of ginger. Classic with foie gras or Roquefort, but also surprisingly good with spicy blue cheese or a simple peach dessert.
