The estate still belongs to the family of its founder, Romain de Filhot – today, Count Henri de Vaucelles manages the 350-hectare property with 62 hectares of vines. A Deuxième Cru Classé since 1855: an accolade that Filhot wears with pride, without resting on its laurels. What you'll find in the glass is golden depth – honey, ripe fruit, and that unmistakable freshness that makes a good Sauternes so unforgettable.

Château Filhot is located in the southern part of the Sauternes appellation, away from the hustle and bustle around Yquem, and has been producing sweet wines since 1709, remaining in the family to this day. Count Henri de Vaucelles manages the 350-hectare estate—62 hectares of which are planted with vines—in direct lineage from its founder, Romain de Filhot.
For Filhot, the 1855 Deuxième Cru Classé is not a source of complacency, but a benchmark. The sandy, gravelly, and clay soils encourage consistent botrytis development, giving the wine its characteristic balance: honey and ripe citrus fruit take center stage, underpinned by a freshness that keeps the finish vibrant. Not a heavy dessert wine, but a Sauternes with presence.
In the glass, Filhot displays a golden yellow color, with aromas of apricot, beeswax, and a hint of ginger. Classically paired with foie gras or Roquefort, but also surprisingly good with spicy blue cheese or a simple peach dessert.
