Mallorcan wine from the terraces of the Tramuntana
Binigrau is located in the interior of Mallorca, far from the coast – where the island becomes rougher and quieter. On old terraced vineyards below the Tramuntana mountains grow vines that have become accustomed to barren soils and hot summers. The result is wines that have nothing of the island's touristy lightness, but instead tell of its other side: stony, spicy, with a Mediterranean warmth on the finish.
The focus is on the native Manto Negro grape variety – one of the oldest varieties on Mallorca, which is hardly grown anywhere else. Binigrau focused on it early on and shows what depth and structure it can develop on the right soils: dark fruit, macchia herbs, a firm tannin structure. No blending with international varieties, no adapting to a global taste.
