Vinya La Scala CS Gr.Res. HK
Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Catalonia's most defining addresses — matured, multi-layered, with the weight of long oak barrel aging.
Jean Leon is a pioneer of the Penedès: The founder of the same name was one of the first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon in the region in the 1960s — a provocation back then, a signature grape variety today. The winery is located at an altitude of 200 to 400 meters in the western Penedès, with Mediterranean heat tempered by Atlantic influences. The Vinya La Scala Gran Reserva is the house's flagship: produced only in strong vintages, with long barrel aging according to the Spanish Gran Reserva tradition.
In the glass, deep garnet red with reddish-rusty reflections at the rim — a sure sign of maturity. On the nose, dark blackberry and black plum, underlaid with cedar wood, sandalwood, and a subtle trace of roasted coffee bean. On the palate, dense but without harshness: the tannins are fully integrated, the structure carries the wine through a long, slightly spicy finish with notes of tobacco and dark chocolate.
Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs with leg of lamb with rosemary, mature Manchego, or a hearty beef roast. Anyone who has a bottle in the cellar can safely let it lie until 2030.
