Vigna Steinraffler Lagrein DOC South Tyrol 0.75L

Vigna Steinraffler Lagrein DOC South Tyrol 0.75L
Lagrein is South Tyrol's most idiosyncratic grape variety — dark, tannin-rich, with a depth that many international varieties do not reach. The Vigna Steinraffler from Hofstätter shows what this autochthonous variety can do when it stands on the right soil.
The vines grow in the Putznai vineyard at an altitude of 280 to 300 meters, in sandy porphyry soil with dolomite components — a substrate that brings minerality into the wine while ensuring natural drainage. Hofstätter is one of the most traditional wineries in South Tyrol and has relied on the varietal vinification of local grape varieties for generations.
In the glass, the Steinraffler shows deep ruby red with violet reflections. On the nose, blackberry, dark cherry, and a hint of violet, plus spicy notes of black pepper and some tobacco. On the palate, powerful but well-integrated tannins, medium acidity, and a long, slightly mineral finish.
Best served at 16–18 °C. Pairs with braised beef, game ragout, or aged mountain cheese from the region. Decanting it gives it time to open up completely.
