Valmaggiore Nebbiolo d'Alba DOC Piedmont 0.75L
Nebbiolo from Roero — the sandy counterpart to the Barolo hill on the other side of the Tanaro. Bruno Giacosa, one of the most renowned wineries in Piedmont, vinifies this Valmaggiore from sites around Monteu Roero, Santo Stefano Roero, and Vezza d'Alba, which are predominantly oriented to the southwest and west. The vines are on average between 28 and 34 years old — old enough to wrest depth from the light sandy soil of the Roero.
In the glass, the Nebbiolo shows its typical structure: aromas of cherry, dried roses, and a hint of licorice, plus the variety-typical acidity and tannins that are present but turn out finer than in Barolo. The finish is spicy, with a slightly mineral note that reflects the sandy subsoil of the Roero sites.
Serve it at 16–18 °C with Brasato al Barolo, rabbit with olives, or a mature Toma Piemontese. If you are looking for Nebbiolo without the power of a great Barolo, this is the right choice.
