"The Straits" Sauvignon Blanc

Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand can be loud and one-dimensional—this one isn't. "The Straits" from Silenis shows the other side of the grape variety: mineral, structured, with real depth.

Silenis Estates is located in Hawke's Bay, one of New Zealand's oldest wine regions on the east coast of the North Island. Winemaker Grant Edmonds here is working on a style that prioritizes juiciness and balance over aromatic intensity—a rarity for New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

In the glass, white peach and gooseberry aromas are revealed, along with a distinct minerality and a fresh herbal note in the background. The body is unusually full for the grape variety, the acidity well-integrated rather than harsh. The finish is long and characterized by a slightly salty note.

Recommendation: Pairs well with goat cheese, grilled sea bass with herb butter, or asparagus risotto. Serving temperature 9–11 °C. Drink now until 2026, ideally young and fresh.
