Solenida Costa Toscana IGT

Solenida Costa Toscana IGT
A Sangiovese that takes its name from fossil Solenidae shells in the soil of the Tenuta — this is not a marketing idea, but a reference to the geological speciality of the location in Tuscany.
Tenuta Podernovo lies in the hills of the Costa Toscana, an IGT area that allows winemakers more freedom in their cellar work than classic DOCG zones. The estate takes full advantage of this freedom: part of the Solenida matures in amphorae —clay vessels without oxygen exposure, which protect the fruit aromas and give the wine an earthy, almost archaic texture.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose offers aromas of Amarena cherry, ripe plum, and blackberry jam, underpinned by licorice, anise, and a subtle hint of spice. On the palate, it is juicy, with the typical Sangiovese acidity and tannins that keep the wine vibrant despite the ripe fruit. The finish is long and slightly spicy.
Serving suggestion: 16–18 °C, ready to drink now. Pairs well with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar sauce on pappardelle, or mature Pecorino Toscano.
Tenuta Podernovo lies on a gentle rise in Terricciola – amidst the rolling hills around Pisa, where the Etruscans already cultivated wine. The sandy soils with their fossil deposits create a microclimate here that makes elegance almost inevitable.
The focus is on Sangiovese : The Teuto matures for 20 months in large wooden barrels, showcasing the true potential of this region. The Aliotto complements it with Cabernet and Merlot, while the Auritea , a pure Cabernet Franc, completes the collection. All three share a fine tannin structure and a lingering finish.
