Tamnavulin Speyside Double Cask Single Malt Whiskey

Tamnavulin Speyside Double Cask Single Malt Whiskey
An approachable Speyside malt that, thanks to its two-stage cask finish, reveals more depth than its price would suggest. Tamnavulin is located in the heart of Speyside, in the Livet Valley—one of Scotland's most densely populated whisky regions. The distillery focuses on the region's classic fruitiness and complements it with the eponymous double-cask finish.
Maturation begins in ex-bourbon barrels, which impart the characteristic vanilla sweetness and brightness. This is followed by a finish in wine casks—hence the second layer in the aroma profile: ripe stone fruit notes meet a subtle caramel depth. The nose reveals apple, toffee, and marzipan, while the palate is full-bodied with creamy peach, pear, and a hint of pineapple. The finish is warm, moderately long, with a gentle oak spice.
At 40% ABV, the Tamnavulin Double Cask is not a high-proof spirit — but it is uncomplicated to enjoy:
- Neat at room temperature, slightly warmed in a glass
- On the rocks as a summer evening drama
- In cocktails : Whisky Sour or as a base for a highball with ginger ale
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
