Silvaner Alte Reben Langenberg 1G QW Franconia 0.75L
Silvaner from the Retzstadter Langenberg — this is Franconia in its most concentrated form. Old vines on barren shell limestone, steep plots, hand-harvesting: this is not a pleasing everyday wine, but a white wine with real depth and clear origin.
Rudolf May manages his plots in the Retzstadter Langenberg with the ambition of bringing the character of the soil into the bottle. The shell limestone gives the Silvaner its typical bone structure — taut acidity, mineral precision, not a gram of excess. The old vines yield little, but provide concentrated aromas: white peach, quince, a hint of herbs, and the salty minerality in the finish characteristic of Franconian Silvaner.
On the palate, dry and straightforward, with a texture that has more weight than one expects from a white wine. The finish remains long and shows that fine, chalky note that good shell limestone Silvaner brings with it. Drinking temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs with asparagus with hollandaise sauce, fried zander, light veal, or mature goat cheese from Franconia.
