S. E. Syrah dry QW Württemberg 0.75L

A Syrah that shows what Württemberg can do: dark-fruited, spicy, with a depth not always expected in this region. The S.E. Syrah from the Graf Neipperg winery is not a light everyday red, but a wine with attitude.

Graf Neipperg is one of the most traditional wineries in Württemberg — the family has been cultivating their sites for centuries and recognized the Syrah grape variety early on as an opportunity for the warm Württemberg climate. 18 months of aging in new and used barrique barrels give the wine its structured base.

In the glass, it shows deep purple-red. The nose opens with blackberry and dark plum, behind it smoke, pipe tobacco, and black pepper — typical for a well-made Syrah. On the palate, it is present, with noticeable but integrated tannins and a long, spicy finish.

Pairs well with braised lamb saddle, game ragout, or a hearty hard cheese like Manchego. Drinking temperature: 17–18 °C. If you like, decant it an hour before pouring — this opens up the aromatics significantly.
