S. E. Merlot Barrique dry QW Württemberg 0.75L

A Württemberg Merlot that shows how well this grape variety performs in the southwest of Germany: structured, dark-fruited, with the weight of a barrique-aged red wine without being heavy.

Weingut Graf Neipperg is one of the most traditional estates in Württemberg — the family has been cultivating their vineyards for centuries and has significantly shaped the region. The S.E. Merlot matures for 18 months in new and used barriques, which gives it a fine woody spice without masking the fruit.

In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red. On the nose, blackberry, plum, and a hint of dark chocolate, underpinned by subtle vanilla from the barrel. On the palate, medium to full body, velvety tannins, and a pleasant length with a slightly spicy finish.

Good with roast beef, leg of lamb, or a hearty pasta ragù. Best served at 17–18 °C — that is when the fruit unfolds completely.
