Rosso di Montalcino DOC

The Rosso di Montalcino is the younger brother of the Brunello — from the same Sangiovese vines in the hills around Montalcino, but vinified earlier and ready to drink sooner. Less aging time, but more liveliness in the glass.

Montalcino is located in the southern part of Tuscany at an altitude of about 500 meters. The combination of Galestro rock, hot summers, and cool nights gives the Sangiovese Grosso — called Brunello here — its characteristic tension between ripeness and acidity. The Rosso DOC can be released to the market after one year, which makes it more accessible without giving up the typical character of the appellation.

In the glass, it shows deep ruby red. The nose opens with sour cherry, pomegranate, and a hint of dried violets, plus a light touch of leather and lemon verbena. On the palate, medium body, lively acidity, tannins with bite but without harshness — and a finish with a spicy tobacco note.

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
Pairs well with: Bistecca alla Fiorentina, wild boar salami, pasta al ragù, or a mature Pecorino.
