Roda I Reserva single bottle in wooden box - DOCa Rioja 1.5L

The Roda I Reserva 2020 from the magnum bottle (1.5 l) stands for the dark-fruited, powerful side of Rioja Reservas. The cuvée of Tempranillo and Graciano is vinified dry and seems precise despite its density.

Bodegas Roda is based in Haro in the Rioja Alta. The grapes come from over 30-year-old bush vines around the town, are harvested by hand, and selected at the winery. Spontaneous fermentation takes place in French oak vats, then the wine matures for 16 months in French barriques, half new and half second-fill. This is followed by 20 months of bottle aging.

In the glass, the wine is deep dark with a cherry-red rim. In the nose, black plum and ripe cherry appear, along with sweet spices and herbs. On the palate, it feels dense and velvety, the tannin is fine-grained, the finish long. Serve it at 16 to 18 °C and decant it briefly beforehand. It pairs well with braised lamb, grilled entrecôte, or aged Manchego. The magnum bottle is suitable for a larger table.

The Bodega

Bodegas Roda

Bodegas RODA is no ordinary winery. In the late 1980s, the Rotllant Daurella family came to Rioja with the clear intention of creating something lasting. The result is one of the most exciting wineries in Spain.

High above Haro's railway station district, wines are produced that bring out the best in old Tempranillo vines: SELA as an approachable entry point, RODA for deep red fruit, RODA I for dark power and freshness – and CIRSION for truly great moments. A winery that knows its roots and yet always looks to the future.
