Off-dry, powerful, and herbaceous with aromas of stone fruit, citrus, and crushed leaves; the character is dominated by a wonderful juiciness, a touch of fruit sweetness, and a melting minerality. The renowned Peter Lauer winery on the Saar has made the leap into the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP) and has been a member since January 1, 2013. Father Peter and son Florian manage the family winery, founded in 1830, which is dedicated exclusively to the production of characterful Rieslings. All wines are spontaneously fermented, aged for an extended period in large oak casks on the fine lees, and stirred occasionally. This gives them a creamy, juicy richness. The labels list the cask numbers as well as the vineyard parcels, as the wines are made from single-parcel grapes from different plots within the famous Ayler Kupp vineyard. In some parcels, the vines are over 100 years old. Special attention is paid to the racy, off-dry Rieslings with noticeable residual sugar. Stylish wines with elegance, not too alcoholic but with depth and density.
