Redigaffi Merlot IGT Tuscany 1.5L

The Redigaffi is the flagship of Tua Rita — a Merlot from Suvereto in southern Tuscany that has been one of Italy's most sought-after wines since its first vintage in 1994. The magnum bottle (1.5 liters) matures more slowly and evenly than the standard bottle and is therefore particularly suitable for special occasions where a wine is meant to take center stage.

Tua Rita was founded in 1984 by Rita Tua and Virgilio Bisti in Suvereto — at a time when the Maremma was still considered a peripheral area. Today, the winery is one of the top addresses for so-called Super Tuscans. The Redigaffi grows on iron-rich soils near the Tyrrhenian coast, where temperature fluctuations between day and night promote the aromatic complexity of the Merlot.

In the glass, it shows dark blackberry, black cherry, and plum, along with notes of dark chocolate, cedarwood, and fine spice accents. The body is dense and full-bodied, the tannins are ripe and velvety, and the finish is long and warm. Drinking temperature: 17–18 °C. Decant at least one hour before serving. Pairs with braised wild boar, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, or aged Pecorino di Pienza.
