Promis Toscana IGT 0.75L

The Promis is Ca'Marcanda's most accessible wine — and yet it is not a simple one. Behind the name lies the Tuscan interpretation of a southern French idea: Merlot, Syrah, and Sangiovese from the coastal zone of the Maremma, where the Mediterranean climate ensures fully ripe grapes.

Ca'Marcanda is the Tuscan project of Angelo Gaja, the Piedmontese winemaker who has established himself in Bolgheri since the 1990s. The vineyards around Bibbona are located on dark, loamy soils — a subsoil that is particularly favorable to Merlot and gives the wine body and density. The Promis is the estate's entry-level cuvée, but with the same artisanal standards as its big siblings Magari and Ca'Marcanda.

In the glass, it shows blackberry and ripe plum, plus a hint of clove and dark chocolate. The tannins are present but round, and the acidity gives the wine structure without sharpness. The finish is warm and lingering.

Good with wild boar salami, pasta al ragù, or grilled lamb chops. Serving temperature 16–18 °C.
