Pommard Épenots Clos de Citeaux AC Premier Cru 0.75L
The Pommard Épenots Clos de Citeaux is one of the most renowned addresses in the Côte de Beaune — a Premier Cru from the heart of Pommard, where Pinot Noir finds its darker, more structured side on iron-rich, clayey limestone. Domaine Jean Monnier & Fils has cultivated this Clos for generations and is one of the quiet, reliable names of Burgundy: no media hype, just artisanal continuity.
A deep garnet red shines in the glass. The bouquet opens with black cherry and blackberry, plus a hint of violets and damp earth — the typical terroir profile of the Épenots, which clearly stands out from the softer sites of Volnay. On the palate, the wine shows what defines Pommard: denser tannins, a taut acid structure, but no weight for the sake of weight. The finish is long, slightly spicy, with an aftertaste of dark spices.
Served at 16–17 °C, it pairs with braised lamb shoulder, Coq au vin, or a ripe Époisses. If you open it for a meal, you should let it decant for an hour beforehand — this gives the tannins time to open up.
