Pinot Nero Schweizer Alto Adige DOC 0.75L

Pinot Nero from South Tyrol is one of the most demanding red wines in Italy — and the Schweizer from Franz Haas shows why. The sites around Montan range from 350 to 700 meters in altitude, where cool nights and intense sunlight slow down the ripening of the berries and condense the aromatics.

Franz Haas has been considered one of the most reliable addresses for Pinot Nero in Alto Adige for decades. The winery in Montan works with the grape variety, which can unfold its Burgundian elegance at this altitude — without the heaviness of warmer growing regions. In the glass, the Schweizer shows aromas of sour cherry and raspberry, a hint of violets, and a fine earthy note in the background. The body is medium-weight, the tannins silky and well-integrated, the finish fresh with a pleasant fruit line.

It is best to serve it at 16–17 °C — with saddle of veal with mushrooms, roasted duck, or an aged mountain cheese from the region. It also makes a good impression with risotto with truffle.
