Pavillon Rouge

Pavillon Rouge is the second wine of Château Margaux – created from parcels and vintages that do not go into the Grand Vin, but still bear the signature of one of the most famous estates in the Médoc.

Château Margaux cultivates approximately 80 hectares in the eponymous appellation on gravelly-sandy soil, which contributes to the elegance of Margaux wines. The Pavillon Rouge – officially marketed as a separate cuvée since the 1970s – consists predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. It is aged in barriques, some of which are new.

In the glass, a deep purple-red with a violet rim. On the nose, cassis, black cherry, cedarwood, and a hint of graphite – classic Médoc. On the palate, medium to full-bodied, with silky tannins, lively acidity, and a long, spicy finish. Not heavy, but with a clear structure.

Drinking recommendation: Drinkable now, drinking window until approx. 2030. Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs well with herb-crusted rack of lamb, beef steak or mature Comté cheese.
