Pavillon Rouge

The Pavillon Rouge is the second wine of Château Margaux – created from parcels and vintages that do not flow into the Grand Vin, but still bear the signature of one of the most famous estates in the Médoc.

Château Margaux manages around 80 hectares in the appellation of the same name on gravelly-sandy soil, which is partly responsible for the elegance of the Margaux wines. The Pavillon Rouge – officially marketed as an independent cuvée since the 1970s – consists mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, supplemented by Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Aged in barriques, some of which are new.

In the glass, dense purple-red with a violet rim. On the nose, cassis, black cherry, cedar wood, and a hint of graphite – classic Médoc. On the palate, medium to full body, silky tannin, lively acidity, and a long, spicy finish. Not a heavyweight, but clear structure.

Serving recommendation: Drinkable now. Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs with lamb rack with a herb crust, beef steak, or mature Comté.
