Patraiki Retsina

Retsina is the magic potion of the Greeks. This "resin wine" was already drunk in antiquity and was attributed with healing properties. "Retsina" (the Greek word for resin) is produced by adding pine resin from the Aleppo tree during the fermentation of the must, which dissolves in the developing alcohol. Retsina likely originated when the amphorae, sealed with wooden corks, in which the wine was stored, were smeared with resin. During transport, some of the resin dissolved into the wine due to shaking. It has a light straw-yellow color. On the palate, this wine exhibits a distinctive resinous flavor.

OIL & WINE PRODUCTIONS AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE OF PATRAS "PATRAIKI 1918"

Patraiki 1918 – the name says it all: This winegrowers' cooperative from Patras looks back on more than a century of winemaking history. Since 1918, winegrowers from the Achaia region in the northwest of the Peloponnese have joined forces to transform the rich soils of their homeland into authentic Greek wines.

Here grows Roditis , the white soul of the region – fresh, vibrant, with a delicate spiciness that tastes of a Mediterranean summer. Tradition meets communal craftsmanship passed down through generations. A piece of authentic Greece in a jar.
