Oberrotweiler Henkenberg Grauer Burgunder PW Baden dry 0.75L

Pinot Gris from the Kaiserstuhl — that means volcanic soil, continental warmth, and a grape variety that has been at home here for generations. The Henkenberg in Oberrotweil is one of the most renowned sites on the Kaiserstuhl: the weathered volcanic rocks store heat and give the wine a mineral depth that does not develop in flatter sites.

The Freiherr von Gleichenstein winery looks back on a centuries-old history in Oberrotweil and is one of the most traditional addresses in Baden. The family cultivates their steep slopes on the Kaiserstuhl with the aim of making the characteristics of the soil visible in the glass — without excesses, but with a clear focus on the origin.

In the glass, the wine glows in a rich golden yellow. The nose shows ripe quince and pear, complemented by a hint of white peach and a subtle floral note. On the palate, the Pinot Gris presents itself full-bodied with a round, almost creamy texture — the characteristic melt favored by the volcanic soils of the Kaiserstuhl. The acidity is well-integrated, never intrusive, and provides freshness and length. The finish is dry, persistent, and slightly spicy with a mineral trace.

At the table, it pairs well with roasted leg of lamb with a herb crust, goat cheese, or a creamy mushroom risotto. It also goes well with grilled sea bass or pasta with truffle butter. Serving temperature: 10–12 °C.
