Muratie Melck's Blended Red

An approachable red wine from Stellenbosch – deep dark in the glass, with ripe fruit and a pleasantly soft character that does not require long waiting times.

Muratie Wine Estate is one of the oldest estates in South Africa: the first vines were planted here in Stellenbosch as early as the 17th century. The winery is situated on the Simonsberg, one of the cooler hills in the region, and has been known for generations for its powerful, fruit-forward reds. Melck's Blended Red bears the name of the Melck family, who have shaped Muratie for decades.

The nose offers a dense berry profile: blackberry, blueberry, and a hint of dark plum. On the palate, it's soft and rounded, with ripe, velvety tannins that are perfectly smooth. The oak aging remains discreetly in the background – no dominant toasty aroma, but rather a light spiciness that gives structure to the fruit base. The finish is medium-long with a lingering berry note.

Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Ready to drink now, but will keep for another 2–3 years without any problems.
Pairs well with: grilled lamb chops, beef burgers with caramelized onions, mature cheddar or a hearty lentil stew.

Murati Wine Estate

Muratie – one of South Africa's oldest wine estates, a listed heritage gem. An almost mystical place brimming with art treasures, boasting architecture from the founding era, nestled in the foothills of the Simonsberg near Stellenbosch. The soils surrounding the old farmhouse are among the best in the country for classic red wines. The Melck family has been at home here since the 17th century. Legendary among them is Martin Melck, who emigrated from East Prussia and founded the Lutheran Church in Cape Town. Ronnie Melck shaped the estate in the 20th century as a pioneer of South African winemaking. Today, his son, Dr. Rijk, carries on the legacy.
