Muratie Ansela van de Caab Cape Bordeaux

A Cape Bordeaux blend with weight and attitude – the Ansela van de Caab from Muratie shows what Stellenbosch can do with red grape varieties: dense fruit, structured tannins, and a finish that doesn't break off.

Muratie Wine Estate is one of the oldest wineries in the Cape region – the first vines were planted here as early as the early 18th century. The farm is located on the slopes of the Simonsberg in Stellenbosch, one of South Africa's most renowned red wine terroirs. Classic Bordeaux grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc characterize the cuvée, which bears the name of Ansela van de Caab – one of the first documented female winemakers at the Cape.

In the glass, the wine opens with black plum, ripe blackberries, and a distinct hint of black pepper. Vanilla and a slight cedar tone in the background indicate barrique aging. Full-bodied on the palate, silky tannins, and a length that lingers for a while after the last sip. The wine has aging potential – currently, some aeration is appropriate.

Serving temperature: 17–18 °C. Pairs with leg of lamb with herb crust, beef fillet, or mature hard cheese like Manchego.
