Merlot Alto Adige DOC 0.75L

A Merlot that shows what South Tyrol can extract from this grape variety: not a heavy, alcohol-driven interpretation, but a red wine with clear contour, lively fruit, and alpine freshness.

Franz Haas is one of the defining names in Alto Adige — the winery is located in Montagna/Montan, at altitudes that give the Merlot structure and coolness. The combination of a Mediterranean-warm climate during the day and cool nights from the Alps ensures aromas that appear neither overripe nor flat.

In the glass, a deep garnet red appears. On the nose, forest berry and elderberry, plus dried fig and a hint of freshly ground pepper with star anise. On the palate, juicy and fresh, medium body, fine tannins, pleasantly dry finish without heaviness.

Pairs well with pasta with ragù, grilled rack of lamb, or a spicy mountain cheese from the region. Drinking temperature: 16–17 °C.
