MCK Motor City Kitty Syrah
The MCK Motor City Kitty is Charles Smith's homage to Walla Walla – a Syrah that combines the raw energy of his rock band past with the precision of a seasoned winemaker. Powerful but not overpowering, with a structure you want to drink, not analyze.
Charles Smith wasn't born a winemaker. He came as a tour manager who discovered wine in Europe and found his place in Washington State. In Walla Walla, where the Columbia Valley meets the Blue Mountains, he began building K Vintners in 1999, a brand that transforms grapes from the region's best vineyards into distinctive wines. Wine Enthusiast named him Winemaker of the Year in 2014 – not for perfection on paper, but for wines with character and vision.
On the nose, the Syrah displays black cherry and a hint of roasted meat, typical of the cool nights and hot days of Washington State. Earthy notes and dried herbs follow on the palate, with a generous finish and a mineral edge. Dry, with good body, but without the heaviness of overripe fruit.
Pairs well with grilled lamb loin, venison burgers, or a hearty pot roast. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Ready to drink now, but will keep for several years.
