Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore DOC Veneto 0.75L
The Maternigo Valpolicella Superiore comes from one of the oldest family businesses in Valpolicella: Tedeschi has been farming the hills east of Verona for generations, with a clear focus on the classic grape varieties of the region — Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella.
The name Maternigo refers to the family's estate of the same name, whose vineyards cover around 33 hectares in the municipalities of Tregnago and Mezzane di Sotto. The Superiore classification stands for increased minimum requirements for alcohol and ripening time compared to simple Valpolicella — the result is a wine with more substance and depth.
In the glass, it shows dark cherry, dried herbs, and a hint of clove, as is typical for ripe, Corvina-dominant wines from the hills east of Verona. The body is medium-weight, the tannins present but without harshness, and the finish is spicy and dry.
Good with pasta al ragù, braised beef, or Pecorino stagionato. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.
