Malterdingen Spätburgunder dry QW Baden 0.75L
The Malterdinger Spätburgunder from Bernhard Huber is a local wine that shows what calcareous soils in the Breisgau can get out of Pinot Noir: no heaviness, no opulence, but precision.
Bernhard Huber is considered one of the pioneers of German Spätburgunder. The winery in Malterdingen works with old vines on soils characterized by shell limestone — a foundation that gives the wine its characteristic freshness and mineral line. The wood aging supports the structure without dominating the fruit.
In the glass, the wine shows aromas of sour cherry and red plum, plus a subtle spice and a hint of earth. The tannins are fine and well-integrated, the acidity lively without sharpness, the finish medium-long and clean.
On the table, it goes well with duck breast, lamb chops, or a ripe Taleggio. Drinking temperature: 16–17 °C. Anyone who opens it a little earlier and decants it gets more of the fruit.
