Chardonnay without oak barrels – that's not a compromise, but a decision for clarity. This wine from Franschhoek, South Africa, shows what the grape variety is truly capable of when oak isn't in the way.

Leopard's Leap is one of the best-known wineries in the Franschhoek region of the Western Cape. The winery focuses on approachable, cleanly vinified wines – the Unwooded Chardonnay is a good example of this: no barrique, no malolactic fermentation, but fresh fruit and a clear varietal profile.

In the glass, it displays a pale straw yellow color. The nose offers aromas of peach, ripe pear, and a hint of citrus peel. The palate is medium-bodied, with lively acidity and a creamy texture that provides a sense of richness despite the lack of oak aging. The finish is fresh and medium-long, with a subtle minerality.

Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Best enjoyed young – by 2026. Pairs well with grilled chicken with herbs, pasta with cream sauce, goat cheese, or pan-fried sea bass. Also a good choice as a casual aperitif.
