Leoluce Grappa Primitivo Riserva 0.7L

This Grappa Riserva from Italy is made from the pomace of the Primitivo grape and has a powerful and warm character. You know Primitivo as the grape variety for dark, full-bodied red wines from Southern Italy – this stature also carries over to the distillate. The result is a spirit with body rather than a lean, sharp pomace distillate.

Leoluce lets the grappa age for 18 months in wooden barrels. It is precisely this wood aging that turns a young pomace brandy into a Riserva: the edges round off, and the warmth of the alcohol recedes. On the nose, hazelnut and nougat; on the palate, soft and balanced, plus a fine spice. The finish remains long and warm.

Best enjoyed neat in a tulip glass at 16 to 18 °C so that the nutty notes can unfold. Classically after a meal, with an espresso, or with dark chocolate with a high cocoa content.
