Königsbacher Ölberg Spätburgunder QW Pfalz VDP.Erstes Gewächs 0.75L
Spätburgunder from one of the most renowned sites in the Palatinate: The Königsbacher Ölberg stands for terroir-driven red wines with a clear language of origin — structured, dry, with the depth of a First Growth.
The A. Christmann winery in Gimmeldingen is one of the leading addresses in the Palatinate and cultivates its vineyards biodynamically. The Königsbacher Ölberg is classified as VDP.Erstes Gewächs — an award that ties strict criteria to yield, hand-harvesting, and winemaking. The soil of Terra Fusca, a tertiary limestone marl with variegated sandstone debris, gives the wine its characteristic minerality and tension.
In the glass, it shows a Spätburgunder with dark cherry, cassis, and a hint of violet. The tannins are firm but fine-grained; the acidity is precise and supporting. The finish is long, spicy, with a mineral edge reminiscent of the limestone marl subsoil.
Served at 16–17 °C, it pairs with game dishes like venison leg or deer medallions, with duck breast with red cabbage, or with a ripe Comté. Those who drink it without food should best give it some time in the glass.
