JJ Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese

Spätlese from Graacher Himmelreich — this is Mosel-Riesling in its classic form: fruity and sweet, but never heavy, carried by an acidity that keeps the wine alive for decades.

JJ Prüm in Wehlen is one of the most renowned wineries on the Middle Moselle. For generations, the estate has cultivated steep slopes of blue slate – including the Graacher Himmelreich, a south-facing vineyard directly on the riverbank. The slate stores heat, releases it at night, and imparts the characteristic minerality that distinguishes Prüm Rieslings from others. Winemaker Katharina Prüm now runs the estate in the tradition of her father, Manfred: long fermentation, late bottling, and no compromise on the drinking window.

In the glass, this late harvest wine displays aromas of white peach, apricot, and citrus peel—underpinned by a subtle slate note. On the palate, the natural residual sweetness supports the lively acidity without overpowering it: a creamy texture, a clear, lingering finish with a hint of petrol that will develop further with age. Drinking window: 2026–2038.

Serve well chilled at 8–10 °C. Pairs well with Asian dishes containing coconut milk, with blue cheeses like Roquefort, or simply on its own as a summer evening beverage.
