Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg Sylvaner dry QW Franconia, VDP ERSTE LAGE 0.75L
The Iphöfer Julius-Echter-Berg is one of the most renowned sites in Franconia — a shell limestone slope that gives the Silvaner exactly what it needs: warmth, depth, and mineral tension. Weingut Weltner from Iphofen has been farming this VDP-Erste-Lage for generations and is one of the most reliable addresses for Franconian Silvaner at the site level.
On the nose, the wine shows marzipan, cashew nuts, and a hint of smoked almond, behind that white pome fruit. On the palate follow juicy mandarin and apricot, embedded in a multi-layered herbal bouquet. The texture is dense without appearing heavy, the acidity taut and clear, the finish dry and long with a mineral reverberation that reminds one of the shell limestone soil.
Franconian Silvaner at this level demands dishes with substance: asparagus with hollandaise sauce, veal schnitzel with cream sauce, or robust affineur cheese like mature mountain cheese. Drinking temperature: 10–12 °C.
