Il Tascante DOC Sicily

A single-varietal Nerello Mascalese from Mount Etna – a grape variety that develops a unique character on volcanic soils that hardly any other region in the world can replicate. A light ruby red in the glass, translucent and with a lightness that belies the intensity of the finish.

Tenuta Tascante belongs to the Tasca d'Almerita group and cultivates vineyards on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, where altitudes between 600 and 1,000 meters, volcanic ash soil, and significant temperature variations between day and night provide the foundation for mineral-driven, cool red wines. Nerello Mascalese is considered the defining grape variety of this DOC zone – thin-skinned, high in acidity, with a tannin structure reminiscent of Burgundy.

On the nose, dark forest berries, pomegranate, and a floral hint of violet, underpinned by a smoky-mineral note that hints at its volcanic origin. On the palate, fresh acidity, medium tannins, and a long finish with a slightly salty aftertaste.

Best served at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with grilled lamb with herbs, pasta alla Norma, or mature Pecorino Siciliano. If opening the wine now, decant it for at least an hour.
