Gran Claustro DO Empordà Costa Brava 0.75L
The Gran Claustro from Castillo Perelada shows what the DO Empordà on the Costa Brava can do: a powerful red wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon that combines Mediterranean warmth with Atlantic freshness.
Castillo Perelada is one of the best-known wineries in Catalonia. The winery is located in the hinterland of the Costa Brava, where the Tramuntana climate — the cool north wind — allows the grapes to ripen slowly and brings freshness to otherwise warm sites. The DO Empordà is one of Spain's oldest wine regions, long underestimated, today valued for its independent style.
In the glass, the Gran Claustro shows a deep cherry red. On the nose, blackberry, black currant, and a hint of dark olive — typical for Cabernet Sauvignon from a Mediterranean climate. On the palate, the wine is dry and full-bodied with round tannins, a lively acidity structure, and a long, spicy finish with notes of bay leaf and cedar wood.
Good with grilled rack of lamb, entrecôte, or a strong Manchego. Serve it at 16–18 °C.
