Godet Pineau des Charentes Rouge

Pineau des Charentes is neither wine nor cognac – but both at once: fresh grape must that is blended with aged cognac from the Charentais region before it can ferment. The result is a sweet, wine-red aperitif with a natural alcohol content of around 17% ABV.

Godet Frères from La Rochelle is one of the oldest négociant houses in the region – family-owned since 1838. Besides Cognac, Pineau des Charentes is part of the house's classic repertoire, which relies on grapes from the heart of the Charentais region.

In the glass, the Rouge displays a deep ruby red. The nose is dominated by ripe red fruits – black cherry, cassis – along with a hint of dried plum and a subtle spiciness from the cognac's oak barrel aging. On the palate, it is soft and rounded, the sweetness balanced by the natural acidity of the grape must, and culminates in a long, fruity, and warm finish.

  • Serve well chilled: 8–10 °C
  • Neat as an aperitif or with blue cheese (Roquefort) and foie gras
  • A classic combination in Charentais: with melon
  • Also as a basis for a Kir variant with Crémant de Loire

Godet Freres

Godet Frères – this is cognac with a history dating back to 1588. For 15 generations, the Godet family has stood on the Atlantic coast of western France, distilling spirits that embody the spirit of this rugged, salty landscape.

Jean-Édouard, Maxime, and Cyril Godet run the house today with the same high standards as their ancestors – but with a fresh, forward-looking perspective. Whether classic Grands Crus, prestigious Super Blends, or cognacs that prove themselves as cocktail bases: at Godet, everyone gets their dram.
