Gimmeldinger Kapellenberg QW, VDP.ERSTE LAGE 0.75L
A Riesling that showcases the distinctiveness of the Palatinate: no Mosel filigree, but substance and warmth from one of the best sites on the edge of the Haardt Mountains.
The A. Christmann winery is one of the leading names in the Palatinate region—biodynamically cultivated, a member of the VDP for many years, and known for its single-vineyard, dry Rieslings with a clear sense of origin. The Gimmeldinger Kapellenberg vineyard bears the VDP.ERSTE LAGE® designation: a south-facing slope high on the edge of the Haardt Mountains, known for its profound, full-bodied Rieslings.
In the glass, it displays ripe citrus fruit—lime and grapefruit—alongside peach and a subtle mineral note reminiscent of warm sandstone. The acidity is present but integrated into a full body; the finish is long and slightly salty.
Pairs well with Palatinate Saumagen (stuffed pig's stomach), grilled pike-perch with herb butter, or a strong mountain cheese. Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Best enjoyed by 2030, with aging potential beyond that.
