Etter Vieille Poire Williams Swiss Williams pear, 40% vol.

The Vieille Poire Williams from Etter is an aged pear brandy from Central Switzerland: golden brown in the glass, carried by ripe fruit and fine wood.

The Etter Söhne AG distillery in Zug processes fully ripe Valais Williams pears for this brandy. Around 11 kilograms of fruit are in a 70 cl bottle. After distillation, the heart of the brandy matures for 3 to 5 years, partly in 50-liter carboys, partly in 225-liter French oak barrels. Only then are both batches combined.

In the nose, there is intense pear fruit, accompanied by wood and vanilla. On the palate, the brandy remains harmonious and elegant: delicate Williams fruit, plus a long, balanced aftertaste. At 40% vol., it feels round rather than sharp.

Recommendation: neat at room temperature in a small tulip glass, for example after a meal. It also goes well with dark chocolate or an aged mountain cheese.
